Recent Development

Highlights of Key Partnerships

1. On April 11, 2018, KU signed an MoU with Brock University (Canada) aimed at promoting international and intercultural understanding through research and student exchange programs;
2. On April 20, 2018, KU signed an MoU with Nasim Institute (Iran) in an attempt to establish and strengthen educational and research cooperation at an international level by using resources to implement research projects, and to cooperate in organizing mutual congresses, seminars, and workshops;
3. On October 12, 2018, KU signed an MoU with Yarsi University (Jakarta) for the purpose of bringing together both parties to the MoU to promote exchange of scientific resources, and to exchange students and faculty members for professional trainings, and joint researches;
4. On March 3, 2018, KU signed a partnership agreement with Can Health International to muster support for educational and scholarly activities at KU in reforming the university from the classical method of learning to competency-based learning;
5. In early 2018, KU launched a curative and educational hospital with Emergency, CPR Surgery, Recovery, Pediatric and Internal wards and rooms for public health-care services to enable students of faculty of medicine to do their internships and practical sessions; and
6. KU Faculty of Medicine held seven scientific conferences on various topics including HIV – AIDs, Hemophilia, Hepatitis, Tuberculosis, and a joint conference with British Columbia University to compare Medical Studies in Afghanistan, the Region and Universities in Canada.

Kateb Medical Research Center

Kateb’s Medical Research Center (KMRC) has recently being launched with the vision to support faculty members and research department of the university. Animal House and Medical Labs are parts of the facilities of KMRC.

Through KMRC, members of medicine faculty at KU are also provided small-scale research grants for implementing their research projects.

Kateb International Medical Congress

KU held its International Medical Congress on October 4, 2018 where 50 research papers were presented. The congress was based on research abstracts presented on different topics on Microbiology and infectious disease and Advanced diagnostic laboratory techniques. These papers are highlighted below:

1. The first paper was presented by Dr. Ehsanullah Darwish on “Outcomes of Engaging a Gynecological Hospital in Tuberculosis, TB Case Notification and Fertility Status of Women in Kabul;
2. The second paper was presented by Dr. Asmatullah Naebkhil on “Compression of Rheumatic Fever and Rheumatic Heart Disease in Afghanistan and Other Nations”;
3. The third paper was presented by Mr. Yasin Mohammadi on “Investigating the Relationship between IFN λ4 and Hepatitis C”;
4. The fourth paper was presented by Dr. Hamedullah Rasikh on “Determination of Antimicrobial Susceptibility Patterns in Staphylococcus Aureaus Strains recovered from Patients”;
5. The fifth paper was presented by Dr. Arif Ataie on “Study of Risk Factor of Pneumonic in Under Five Years Old Children”;
6. The sixth paper was presented by Mr. Saeed Sharifi on “Antimicrobial Resistance in Campylobacter Jejuni and Coli Strains from Human Inversion Mutation of Factor VIII Gene in Patients with Hemophilia A”;
7. The seventh paper was presented by Mr. Mohammad Ali Sultani on “Tumor Detection by Raman Amplified Spectroscopy (SERS)”; and
8. The eights paper was presented by Dr. Safi on “Role of GeneXpert technology in Early Detection of Rifampicin Resistant Patients in Afghanistan”.

Research Publications of KU in International Journals

KU Faculty of Medicine has published several research papers in International Journals. Some of those are listed below:

1. KU Faculty of Medicine published a research paper titled “Evaluation of Antibiotic Prescribing” in European Journal of Internal Medicine (EGIM) with impact factor of 2.9;
2. In collaboration with Kirmanshah Medical University (Iran), Kateb Medical Research Center published a joint research paper titled “Cancer Prevention” in Asian Pacific Journal with impact factor of 2/52;
3. Masoumeh Vaezi, KU faculty member, published a research paper titled “Prevalence, Cognitive and Socio Demographic Determinants of Prostate Cancer Screening Asian” in the Asian Pacific Journal;
4. Mahdi Mohaqiq published a research article titled “Successful Human Spermatogonial Stem Cells Homing in Recipient Mouse Testis after In-Vitro Transplantation and Organ Culture” in Impact Factor Journal.
